In the Old Burying Ground, in Beaufort, North Carolina, visitors frequently leave small gifts and trinkets at the unusual gravesite of the little girl buried in a barrel of rum. According to the legend, a young girl traveled to England with her father who promised the child’s mother to return her safely home. 
Sadly, on the return journey, the young girl died at sea. Desperately wanting to keep his promise to return home with his daughter, the girl’s father purchased a barrel of rum from the ship’s captain. He placed his daughter’s lifeless body in the barrel of rum and returned her to Beaufort for burial at home. (Source)

Although their flesh is usually white in color, occasionally the Lingcod fish will have blue tinted flesh. A bile pigment called biliverdin seems to be responsible for turning the blood serum of these fish blue. But how this pigment gets into the tissues and flesh of the fish, or why only some lingcod turn this striking shade, is a mystery to biologists. (Source)

Mr. Stubs is the first alligator with a prosthetic tail. The alligator, which lost his tail as a youth after a fight with another gator, was brought to the Phoenix Herpetological Society in 2005. Inspired by “Dolphin Tale” a team of experts dove into the task of discovering the type of tail a gator would need.

Mr.Stubs used his front legs to swim. It was a poor substitute because usually alligators use their long and powerful tail. Luckily, Mr.Stubs has been fitted with a prosthetic tail. He’s learning to grow into it and use it. (Source)

Bondi Beach in Australia turned a crimson red in 2012 because of a rare algae bloom. It’s known as noctilua scintillians or sea sparkle. It’s not that toxic to humans but people were still advised to keep away because the high levels of ammonia in the algae may cause skin rashes & eye irritation. Locals complained that it smelled pretty fishy. (Article)

Neon blue lava pours from Indonesia’s Kawah Ijen Volcano. The reason it’s blue is because the mountain contains large amounts of pure sulfur, which emits an icy violet colors as it turns. It turns the rocky slopes into a hot, toxic environment. (Article)
