A fisherman hauled in a starfish with eight legs instead of five. According to the experts, that makes him the world’s first recorded octofish. The starfish does have a remarkable ability to regenerate lost arms, sometimes growing two where there was one, meaning that six armed creatures are not unheard of.But close examination of Stan’s anatomy after he was caught off the coast of Cornwall last week suggests he was born that way. Like human conjoined or Siamese twins, he could be the product of a single egg and sperm which failed to separate properly early in the process of development. (Source)

St. Elmo’s Fire is a weather phenomenon involving a gap in electrical charge. It’s like lightning, but not quite. And while it has been mistaken for ball lightning, it’s not that, either.

St. Elmo’s Fire is plasma, or ionized air that emits a glow. St. Elmo’s Fire is a corona discharge, and it occurs when there is a significant imbalance in electrical charge, causing molecules to tear apart, sometimes resulting in a slight hissing sound. (Source)

Moon pillars are a type of light pillar. Moon pillars occur when the Moon is low enough in the sky to be close to the horizon.  The ice crystals involved are generally flat or columnated, allowing a vertical beam of light to reflect above and below the Moon in a straight line. (Source)
