A glitch in the matrix post for sixpenceee

In my family, there’s this strange trait that gets passed down. It either starts in childhood and ends in puberty, or starts at puberty and lasts until you die.

My first time experiencing it was when I was about 12 years old. I went to bed like every normal night, my dog was kind of whining outside more than usual but nothing alarming. I couldn’t sleep. At all. It was the start of many many years of insomnia. When I finally got to sleep, I went into rem almost immediately.

The first thing I remember is sitting down on a park bench. Nobody was around despite it being a very sunny day in my dream. A perfect day.

I could still hear my dog whining.

A man sat down at the next table and I was compelled to stare at him. He was fiddling with a deflated bag and smelled of stale air. Everything seemed so still. The trees were frozen mid wind gust and were all slightly pointing in the same direction. He eventually glared long at me and said “don’t you dare remember”

I don’t remember what happened next, but I woke up in my mom’s room furiously scribbling a portrait of the man I saw in my dream.

The next day, there was an amber alert. 5 year old boy from the next block went missing on his way to school. He was later found wrapped in a sheet near the park.

A few days later, they caught the murderer. Sure enough, he was identical to my sketch. My mom told me when I got home that she was watching the news and almost had a heart attack.

Things like this happen to me almost every night, and I never know whose face it is or event or where it takes place. I might see a car accident in India or a corrupt soldier in Syria. Or things that are supposed to happen to myself like a shooting when I’m supposed to be somewhere but take a different route home that day.

I wonder how many glitches I have left.
